As a traditional independent school, Rugby has always had a significant role in our school life. Rugby is played during the Michaelmas Term, with 7’s in the Lent term, encompassing a philosophy to provide playing opportunities at all levels.
Pupils participating in Rugby at Trent College are encouraged to adhere to the ethics of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship; qualities we believe benefit the students greatly whilst being part of the wider school community.
Trent fields teams across years 7-13, offering an opportunity to experience the sport within a team environment that best fits their ability. The school has a strong fixture card, playing both mid-week and Saturday matches. We also enter the Natwest School Cup competition at U18 and U15 level; where considerable success is regularly achieved.
We work closely with individual players, through specific individual programs and supporting those involved with in the RFU Academy structure and the representative pathway. We have strong links with Nottingham, Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints.
All Trent teams are run by Trent College teaching staff, who hold accredited Rugby Football Union coaching and refereeing awards. The school also employs the services of current and ex professional players to facilitate skill development and mentoring sessions with our students and the Head of Rugby, Steve McGinnis, recently retired from playing professional Rugby for Fylde and Lancashire.
A qualified strength, conditioning and nutritional coach underpins our continued success from participation to elite level, across the school.
Players also have the opportunity to experience both long haul and short haul Rugby Tours with trips organised on a regular basis and as far afield as South Africa.
Scholarships are available for Sport and we warmly welcome enquiries from students who are looking to enhance their Rugby development. Please contact Steve McGinnis for further information about Rugby and Rugby opportunities at Trent College email@example.com
