The Sports Department here at Trent is one bursting at the seams with its success stories. Not only do we have sporting success during school, but also, students take part in external activities and are part of sporting clubs, so our sporting success is endless.
The annual District Cross Country saw Trent field a larger than usual team into the event, with high hopes of the runners competing well. This is the first time they were able to compete as a team rather than just individuals and all six runners from Year 7 acquitted themselves extremely well. With the top 12 runners moving onto the County Championships. Will Sanderson led the Trent runner home, finishing in an excellent third place, closely followed by Morgan Jones (sixth place), Henry Pygall (seventh place) and Mitchell Chapman who secured twelfth spot and the final county placing. Overall the team came second.
Meanwhile in the junior girls’ race, congratulations go to Amelia Hobbs and Maddy Brown who continued their success from last year and secured third and seventh place.
Tom Ollerton was the lone runner in the junior boys’ race and he ran very well, securing a county spot.
The final race saw the Inter boys run strongly from the start with Daniel Hopkin setting the pace; he never relinquished his position and brought the field home. Closely followed by his team mates: Tobias Brown (third), Alex Walter (fifth) and Harry Shakesheff (seventh).
A well supported Under 73kg weight category saw Jamie Spencer-Pickup line up with 11 other Independent Schools’ Judokas.
Jamie also recently had a fantastic competition over in Spain where he achieved a credible ninth out of 36 European competitors in the GB Judo. This will give Jamie points towards getting to the Junior Olympics/Commonwealth.
Finally we have also received some fantastic news on the Rugby front. Four of our Trent boys who played in the NLD Championship representing Derby RFC U14s won back-to-back matches.
Congratulations also go to Ben Slessor on being selected for the Scotland U16 squad.
A big well done to all our students at Trent College.
